Encourage Yourself

There is a song “Encourage Yourself” by Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers. The lyrics say, “Sometimes you have to encourage yourself. Sometimes you have to speak victory during the test….. encourage yourself in the Lord. Sometimes you have to speak the word over yourself, the pressure is all around, but God is present help. ….. encourage yourself in the Lord.”

David understood this even back then. While he and the men were away, the Amalekites had come into Ziklag burned the city and taken all the women away. When the men returned home to see this, after weeping the men were ready to kill David for what had happened. But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. We have to do the same thing. Sometimes we can’t get in touch with our friend or sister girl. We have to bring back to remembrance those scriptures that remind us who God is and who we are in Him.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Psalm 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Psalm 50:15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

Psalm 84:11-12 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Psalm 121:1-3 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

Just like the song lyrics state, sometimes you have to encourage yourself. And when you do, encourage yourself in the Lord.
